Betty Friedan [Betty Friedan]
(1921–2006) a US writer and ↑feminist (= a person who believes strongly that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men). She began the ↑National Organization for Women in 1966 and was its President until 1970. Her book The Feminine Mystique (1963) was an important influence on the ↑women's lib movement. Friedan later wrote The Second Stage (1981) and The Fountain of Age (1993).
